Three Different Versions: One Great B'way Song!

From Jerry Herman's wonderful musical, Mack & Mabel. The first vertsion is by the amazing Brian Stokes Mitchell, then the late Howard Keel and finally, the incredible British stage star, John Barrowman. Each brings his own unique interpretation to the song. Keel's delivers the song in the classical "old world" Broadway style while Stokes Mitchell gives a more nuanced, modern interpretation. And Barrowman? Well, he simply soars! Enjoy!

  2. No one can beat Barrowman. He is yummy in every way.

  3. There’s no one like Keel. But it’s just possible that Stokes’ interpretation, by being so thoughtful and self-conscious, is the most in keeping with the “pre-occupied with me” Sennett.
Barrowman has a superb voice, but he’s too young.

    1. What a treat! All three - gorgeous. Yes...each different in presentation. Brian Stokes Mitchell - lovely a bit hopeful (wishful?). Howard Keel - a bit sorrowful - more sung as an older person . Bowerman....Young - self protecting with a chip on his shoulder - definitely won't send roses.

  5. For this one, BSM...most ambivalent. Most Sondheim.
